Cruelty-Free Cosmetics

Ever since I was little I have been an animal loving person. Proof of this being that one time I cried seeing a cat wandering around campus late at night thinking about if it had a home or food, certain hormones could have been involved in this, but we’ll just focus on the part of me really caring about animals . They are so cute and provide unconditional love, and who couldn’t love a loyal companion? One thing that I have been increasingly more aware of in the last couple of years is cruelty-free brands. It’s easy not to notice or think about how the products you use every day were made. I know I never really considered it until I saw this video by LUSH for their Fighting Animal Testing Campaign. This is a very powerful video that struck something in me to realize how horrible and frequent animal testing is in the cosmetic industry. Seeing the kinds of things that they do to animals when testing for the cosmetic industry makes me sick to my stomach.

After seeing that video I decided it was time for me to go through my makeup box and throw out anything made by a brand that was not cruelty-free. Now, this can be tricky because some companies that are cruelty-free won’t always make that obvious on their product labelling. It can be kind of hard to figure out if a brand is cruelty-free or not, so here are a free of my favorite cruelty-free makeup brands.

1. NYX Professional Makeup

NYX is a brand that I absolutely love using. Their products are a really good quality, especially for how affordable they are! A lot of their products can be really good dupes for high street makeup brands.

2. Colourpop Cosmetics

As you may know from my Febraury favorites post, I LOVE Colourpop Cosmetics. They are another really affordable makeup brand that “leaves fur babies to be fur babies.” Their products are ones that I swear by and use on a daily basis. My all time favorite product from them being their lippie stix! Every formula is amazing and I cannot wait to get my hands on the new crème formula.

3. Urban Decay

While Urban Decay products may be a bit on the pricier side, they are totally worth it! I have used their concealer, primer potion and Naked palettes every day for the last year and I think they are amazing. You absolutely get what you pay for with their products because the outcome is fantastic.

4. Too Faced

Too Faced is a brand I recently began using and immediately fell in love with. The Better Than Sex mascara is truly magical as it makes my stubby, little eyelashes so much longer while giving them great curl as well!

5. LUSH Cosmetics

I saved the best for last! LUSH is a brand that is 100% involved with stopping animal cruelty in the cosmetics industry. Not to mention their products are FENOMINAL. You just walk in to a LUSH store and are instantly hit with amazing smells. Plus, in every LUSH store I have been in their staff has been so helpful and nice. They are well known for their amazing bath bombs, but seeing as I am not much of a bath person I can tell you that their other products are amazing as well. I love their face masks, shower gels, moisturizers, toothy tabs, lip balms, and basically everything else they offer (my faves being the bubblegum lip scrub, snow fairy shower gel, and imperialis moisturizer). They make the BEST seasonal products for holidays that make me so happy. I am pumped for their Easter range that recently launched! You all know how much I love holidays, so holiday themed products from one of my favorite brands make me incredibly happy. The Curly Wurly shampoo has been a saving grace for my dried out from winter curls! Their products are an amazing quality and are handmade. I just love everything about this company. The only downer is that the nearest store to me is four hours away, but I stock up when I go! I could go on and on about LUSH, but I’ll spare you for now and save it for a later post.

I hope this post helped to get you thinking about the brands you use and their impact on animal cruelty. Hope you all had a great start to your week!! What is one thing you are looking forward to that’s keeping you positive this week?

(In no way am I an expert in this matter. These are just my opinions!)

  1. YASSSS!! This is what I need in my life! I too am a huge fan of animals and I tear up at the thought of them being hurt. I love all of these makeup brands too! This just gives me more of a reason to spend all of my money at Ulta 🙂
